KSP Urges Public to Increase Awareness of Personal Data Protection
Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Chief of Staff to the President, General (Ret.) TNI Dudung Abdurachman, has urged the public to increase awareness in protecting personal data amidst the growing threat of cybercrime. “Awareness of personal data protection must be a shared concern, as the digital space has now become an integral part of the daily lives of the Indonesian people,” said Dudung in an official statement from the Presidential Staff Office (KSP) in Jakarta on Tuesday.
He noted that cyber attacks do not only target individuals but also government institutions, the economic sector, and public services, even reaching the level of national security. These cyber threats can manifest as personal data theft, fraud, hacking, and the propagation of radicalism.
Referring to data from the National Cyber and Crypto Agency (BSSN), cyber attacks in 2025 reached 5.5 billion incidents. This figure represents a 714 per cent increase compared to the average number of attacks during the 2020-2024 period. This upward trend continued into early 2026, with 1.52 billion cyber attacks recorded between 1 January and 15 April 2026.
Dudung ensured that the government, through various ministries and agencies, continues to strengthen the national cybersecurity system. “The Presidential Staff Office is also encouraging the strengthening of cross-sector coordination so that the handling of cyber threats can be carried out in a rapid, measurable, and integrated manner,” he said.
In relation to this, he mentioned that the public plays a vital role in maintaining digital security. “We must be wiser in using social media, maintain the confidentiality of personal data, and increase digital literacy so as not to be easily provoked by false information or digital fraud,” concluded Dudung Abdurachman.
