Chief of the Presidential Staff, General (Ret.) Dudung Abdurachman, conveyed his condolences on the death of a participant in the Sarjana Penggerak Pembangunan Indonesia (SPPI) training programme during a visit to the family home in Sumedang, West Java. Dudung stated that his presence alongside government officials was a gesture of condolence and a sign of the state’s presence to express its sorrow to the family. ‘We have come to offer our condolences on the passing of our friend, Ananda Rifki, during the SPPI training, and I, on behalf of the state, am here to express our deepest condolences,’ he explained. He emphasised that the government shares in the grief experienced and is committed to showing care for the family’s sense of loss. Dudung also said the passing of Muhammad Rifki Renaldi Gunawan is a loss for the nation, as he was being prepared to undertake a noble task in supporting efforts to improve public welfare through the SPPI programme. He noted that he had spoken directly with the deceased’s parents, who have accepted their son’s passing despite their profound loss. ‘We have lost one of the nation’s best sons in the process of education for the noble task of promoting public welfare,’ he said. In addition to offering condolences, the government also provided compensation to the family as a form of support. Following the visit, Dudung and the accompanying government officials went to the cemetery to pray and pay their final respects to the SPPI participant.
