Jakarta - Head of the Presidential Staff Office (KSP) General TNI (Ret.) Dudung Abdurachman stated that no element of negligence has been found regarding the deaths of three participants during basic military training for the Sarjana Penggerak Pembangunan Indonesia (SPPI) programme. Dudung said in a statement on Friday that the training for prospective managers of the Merah Putih Village Cooperatives and Merah Putih Fishing Villages is still being evaluated following reports of the three deaths. “The military training is being evaluated, and we have received information from the State Secretary that there has been no level of negligence. Because death may not necessarily be a direct result of the military training,” Dudung said. He nevertheless assured that the evaluation would continue to ensure all training stages proceed according to procedure and prioritise safety. He also expressed condolences over the deaths of the three participants and expressed hope that all future training implementation would pay greater attention to safety factors to avoid further casualties. “Hopefully, going forward, all training must comply with procedures. Safety factors must be prioritised so as not to cause casualties,” he said. Previously, the Ministry of Defence confirmed on Tuesday that two SPPI programme participants, Anisa Muyassaroh and Yonanda Muhammad Taufiq, died while undergoing basic military training. Yonanda, who was undergoing education at the Baturaja Army Education and Training Centre, died after experiencing a decline in physical condition on Monday and had received treatment at a hospital. Based on medical examination results, he died due to cardiac arrest. The Ministry of Defence then announced that another participant, Novia Rahmadhani Sihotang, died on Wednesday. Novia was a participant in the 2026 SPPI programme undergoing education at the Air Force Language Centre Education Unit in Jakarta. Officials explained that Novia experienced health problems while attending the training on Monday. She was then rushed to the Dr. Esnawan Antariksa Air Force Hospital for medical treatment. Her condition continued to deteriorate until she died on Tuesday.
