Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Chief of Staff to the Presidency, General TNI (Ret.) Dudung Abdurachman, has ensured that the state will closely oversee the process undertaken by prospective Indonesian migrant workers (PMI) until they reach their destination countries in support of the National Safe Migrant Movement.

In a statement received in Jakarta on Monday, Chief of Staff Dudung Abdurachman expressed the government’s strong commitment to ensuring comprehensive protection for Indonesian workers while attending the launch of the National Safe Migrant Movement held at the Office of the Ministry for the Protection of Indonesian Migrant Workers (P2MI)/BP2MI, Jakarta.

“We do not simply send workers away; they must truly be prepared with their skills so that in their destination regions or countries, they possess the quality to make the nation and the state proud,” said Dudung.

On this occasion, the leader of the Presidential Staff Office (KSP) stated that his office will closely monitor every stage experienced by prospective migrant workers, starting from the preparation phase, the departure process, the period of employment in the destination country, until their return to the homeland.

He specifically highlighted the importance of competency training, ensuring that the government does not merely send labour, but rather dispatches individuals who are ready and high-quality.

Furthermore, he reiterated President Prabowo Subianto’s significant concern regarding the welfare and safety of these ‘foreign exchange heroes’ (pahlawan devisa), guaranteeing that moving forward, no Indonesian workers should be abroad without state protection.

“Even before becoming President, the President of the Republic of Indonesia was very concerned about labour protection. Now that he is President, I will ensure the extent of this protection for the Indonesian people abroad,” he added.

The movement is fully supported by the Ministry of P2MI. The Minister of P2MI, Mukhtarudin, explained that the launch of the National Safe Migrant Movement is essentially a concrete follow-up to direct instructions from the President, ensuring the state is present to protect its workers.

“Protection is the first command given by the President to us, the Ministry of P2MI. And that is what we are elaborating; protection begins with a collective movement for the community intending to work abroad,” Mukhtarudin explained.
