KSP Dudung Finds Maggots in MBG Kitchen: If It Can't Be Fixed, Just Close It!
Jakarta – The Presidential Chief of Staff (KSP), General TNI (Ret.) Dudung Abdurachman, conducted a surprise inspection (sidak) of two kitchens belonging to the Nutrition Fulfilment Service Unit (SPPG) in the Kebon Jeruk and Grogol Petamburan areas, West Jakarta. During the inspection, Dudung discovered several serious issues related to cleanliness and food health standards. These included conditions deemed non-compliant, such as dirty kitchen areas, the presence of maggots, pallets that did not meet healthy standards, unsuitable washing facilities, hot kitchen rooms, and mixed storage areas for dry kitchens, wet storage, and dry warehouses. “The two kitchens I inspected are not up to standard,” Dudung stated in a written remark on Tuesday, 12 May 2026. Dudung then requested that the SPPG kitchens failing to meet standards be repaired immediately in the near future. If not possible, Dudung would ask the National Nutrition Agency (BGN) to close the SPPG promptly. “If it can’t be fixed in the near future, just close it immediately. I will convey this to the BGN,” he said. On that occasion, Dudung explained that his office had coordinated with the Head of the National Nutrition Agency (BGN) and the Deputy Head of BGN to follow up on the field findings. He also urged that non-compliant SPPG kitchens be suspended immediately. “Clearly, I have coordinated with the Head of BGN and the Deputy Head of BGN. After seeing the conditions directly in the field, we urge the Head of BGN to suspend the kitchens that do not meet standards,” Dudung clarified. Furthermore, Dudung assured that the KSP would continue to monitor the implementation of the Free Nutritious Meals (MBG) programme. Monitoring the MBG programme is part of the KSP’s responsibility to ensure that the President’s priority programmes truly benefit the public. “This programme is being initiated now so that the quality of Indonesian children in the future can compete with the outside world. Therefore, health standards, cleanliness, and nutritional value must be the primary focus,” he concluded.
