KSP assures free nutritious meal programme governance overhaul will not reduce services
The government has ensured that the governance improvements for the Free Nutritious Meal (MBG) programme are being implemented to increase targeting accuracy and programme effectiveness without reducing services to the public, stated the Chief of Staff to the President, Dudung Abdurachman.
Speaking at Bina Graha, the Indonesian Presidential Palace in Jakarta on Friday, Dudung stated that the governance reforms aim to ensure that every unit of budget utilised delivers optimal nutritional impact for the community.
“The governance improvement of the Free Nutritious Meal Programme is not intended to reduce services, but to ensure that every rupiah of the State Budget (APBN) becomes more precisely targeted, achieves more accurate nutritional impact, and provides greater benefits to the people,” said Dudung.
This statement was made following a meeting with officials from the National Nutrition Agency (BGN) and the Coordinating Ministry for Food Affairs. The meeting discussed Circular Letter Number 12 of 2026 regarding the operational adjustments of Nutrition Fulfilment Service Units (SPPG) during school holidays as part of the MBG Programme implementation for the 2026 Fiscal Year.
He noted that the Presidential Staff Office has also received aspirations from SPPG volunteers as input for policy refinement.
Dudung emphasised that the Presidential Staff Office, alongside the Coordinating Ministry for Food Affairs, continues to oversee policy improvements to ensure service quality is maintained, budget usage is more effective, food supply chains are sustainable, and certainty is provided for implementing partners.
He also reaffirmed the government’s commitment to continuing the MBG Programme, with one of the implementation priorities being in underdeveloped, frontier, and outermost (3T) regions.
In alignment with the national education calendar, the distribution of MBG to students will be adjusted to coincide with the school holiday period from 22 June to 13 July 2026, as part of operational optimisation and efficient resource utilisation.
During this period, the National Nutrition Agency (BGN) will focus on a comprehensive evaluation of SPPG operations, covering service quality, production capacity, fulfilment of infrastructure standards, and the suitability of beneficiaries.
