The Chief of Staff to the President (KSP), Dudung Abdurachman, recently received an audience from the leadership of the Association of All Indonesia Village Governments (APDESI) at the Bina Graha Building, Presidential Palace Complex, Jakarta. The meeting was held to listen to aspirations and strategic notes regarding the implementation of the Merah Putih Village Cooperative (KDMP).

During the audience, Dudung emphasised that the KSP will continue to encourage coordination and oversight to ensure that the implementation of the KDMP is participatory, proportional, and aligned with the specific characteristics of each village. This is intended to ensure the programme provides tangible benefits for strengthening the economy and the welfare of village communities.

“The KSP will align inter-agency coordination to ensure that the KDMP programme runs optimally and reaches its intended targets,” said Dudung.

Dudung also stated that his office would oversee the KDMP programme to ensure it meets its targets and delivers a direct impact on community welfare.

“As the KSP, our duty is to ensure that this presidential priority programme can run according to target and also impact the community,” added Dudung.

Meanwhile, a representative from APDESI presented several crucial inputs, particularly regarding the limited fiscal capacity of villages amidst the high demand for funding for various national priority programmes. APDESI hopes that the implementation and strengthening of the KDMP will proceed optimally without disrupting the fulfilment of basic community needs in villages.

“We hope that support for the KDMP continues without reducing the ability of villages to provide basic services, community empowerment, and village development,” they stated.

Despite raising concerns regarding fiscal conditions, APDESI reaffirmed the full commitment of all village governments to supporting the KDMP as an instrument to strengthen the local economy. However, they emphasised the importance of an approach tailored to the capabilities of each region.

“The commitment of village governments is very clear in supporting the KDPM as a driver of the village economy. However, its implementation is expected to still consider the fiscal conditions and capabilities of each village,” they continued.

Furthermore, APDESI proposed that village governments be involved more substantively and comprehensively from the initial stages of development through to the operation of the cooperative. This is considered vital so that technical or administrative obstacles in the field can be identified and resolved more swiftly.

“Ultimately, we encourage the involvement of village governments from the planning stage, site preparation, construction, through to the operationalisation of the KDMP,” they concluded.
