KRL Window Smashed by Thrown Bottle Goes Viral, KAI Searches for Perpetrator
PT KAI Commuter has expressed regret over an incident in which a bottle of alcoholic beverage was thrown at a Commuter Line train (KRL), shattering a window while the train was passing KM 47+100/200 on the Cilebut–Bojonggede section in Bogor Regency. The incident quickly went viral on social media.
“KAI regrets the incident of throwing objects at train KA 1157 serving the Bogor–Jakarta Kota route on the Cilebut–Bojonggede section,” said Pranoto Wibowo, Public Relations Manager of PT KAI Operational Area 1 Jakarta, in a written statement on Sunday (23/8/2026).
In the viral video footage seen by detikcom, a train window is visibly shattered and covered with a curtain. Below it, shards of broken glass have been swept into a pile in front of an empty seat.
In the video, the remains of a broken bottle can also be seen placed in the corner of a seat near the KRL door. The green bottle is described as having been thrown by an irresponsible person from outside the railway line.
The video also shows several KRL passengers choosing to stand and leaving the seating area around the broken window empty.
Pranoto said the throwing incident occurred on train KA 1157 serving the Bogor–Jakarta Kota route on Sunday (23/8) at around 04:12 WIB. He stressed that throwing objects at trains is extremely dangerous to the safety of the journey and passengers.
“Throwing any object at a train is a very dangerous act. Besides damaging railway facilities, the thrown object can hit passengers or staff and potentially cause serious injury,” said Pranoto.
Pranoto stated that the bottle throwing caused a window on one of the train carriages to shatter. Nevertheless, he confirmed that there were no injuries in the incident.
“As a result of the incident, the thrown bottle hit the window of the fifth passenger carriage from the front, causing the glass to shatter. There were no casualties in the incident,” said Pranoto.
KAI officers have handled the situation and coordinated with the security team at Cilebut Station. Pranoto said the investigation is still ongoing to identify the perpetrator.
“A sweep of the area around the location has been carried out to search for the perpetrator, but so far the perpetrator has not been found. KAI will continue to coordinate and cooperate with security authorities to uncover the incident and follow it up in accordance with applicable regulations,” Pranoto stressed.
To ensure passenger safety and comfort, the shattered window was temporarily covered with a curtain under strict supervision by officers. The KRL train set was then replaced upon arrival at Depok Station.
“KAI replaced the KRL train set at Depok Station so that travel operations could continue safely,” said Pranoto.
“If members of the public see suspicious activity around railway lines, KAI urges them to report it immediately to KAI officers or the authorities,” he added.
