KRL Users Pleased with Elderly Stair Lift at Cikini Station: Very Helpful
The presence of platform lifts at Cikini Station has received a positive response from KRL users. They stated that the stair lifts truly assist people with disabilities as well as the elderly.
“Very helpful in my opinion,” said one KRL user, Farhan, when met by detikcom at the location on Friday (3/4/2026).
Farhan assessed that the stair lift makes it much easier for people with disabilities and the elderly to engage in activities using the KRL. With the stair lift, Farhan said, people with disabilities and the elderly no longer need to queue for long during busy hours.
“So it’s convenient for the disabled and the elderly. Sometimes it’s pitiful if they have to stand on the escalator, especially when it’s crowded during rush hours,” he said.
The same sentiment was expressed by another KRL user, Sintia. She assessed that the presence of the stair lift does not disrupt the activities of other KRL users who use the manual stairs.
“It’s helpful, it makes it easier, especially if using a wheelchair, it can make it more comfortable. No (it doesn’t disrupt other stair users), the stairs are wide too, and there’s an escalator,” Sintia said.
Cikini Station has added new facilities to support KRL Commuter Line users. Cikini Station now has platform lifts or stair lifts that help facilitate access for passengers with disabilities, the elderly, and pregnant women.
Observations by detikcom at Cikini Station, Central Jakarta, on Friday (3/4/2026), showed that this stair lift is installed at three points. First, the stair lift is located at the access entrance to Cikini Station from the ground floor to the card tap-in area.
Meanwhile, the other two points are at each access to the platform, both towards Manggarai and towards Gondangdia. This stair lift is installed on the side edges, both right and left of the stair access.
This stair lift is always ready to be used at any time if there are KRL Commuter Line users who need it. Station security officers around the stairs will assist users who wish to use the facility.
This stair lift facility, when not in use, will be in a closed or folded position, so its presence will not disrupt other stair users. Its size is not too large, with a compact shape and white colour.
The stair lift also includes a notice urging every KRL Commuter Line user who wishes to utilise the facility to contact the officers at Cikini Station.
