A Kampung Bandan–Manggarai KRL train caused a stir on Wednesday morning (28 October) after it overshot Sudirman station in Central Jakarta without stopping to let passengers off or on.

KAI Commuter has begun investigating the driver over the incident.

“KAI Commuter responded firmly and promptly to the incident by taking action at the scene,” the company’s public relations manager, Leza Arlan, said in a statement on Thursday (28 October), as quoted by detik.com.

The driver on duty aboard the train is also being questioned intensively to establish the exact cause, he added.

KAI Commuter said it would conduct a comprehensive investigation, including an evaluation of staff operating procedures.

“As the operator of the Commuter Line transport service, we continue to strengthen supervision and training for all railway crew to uphold public transport safety standards,” Leza said.

The train’s failure to stop at Sudirman had previously caused an online stir, with passengers complaining on social media. Reports said the train came to an abrupt stop after passing the station.

Passengers who wanted to alight at Sudirman eventually got off at Manggarai. They had to cross to another platform to catch a train back towards Sudirman.

“I boarded at Tanah Abang to get off at Sudirman. But it didn’t stop at Sudirman. Suddenly the train stopped abruptly after it had passed the station (maybe they had just realised they hadn’t stopped?). In the end, we were taken to Manggarai,” Threads user Divaaputrii wrote.

In response to commuters’ complaints that morning, KAI apologised for the operational violation. Leza said the company hoped and would work to prevent a recurrence, stressing that passenger safety was its priority.
