JAKARTA — VP Corporate Secretary of KAI Commuter Karina Amanda stated that electric railway (KRL) stations are projected to begin experiencing passenger congestion after 10:00 AM during the Eid holiday period in 2026.

“As for congestion, since this falls under a public holiday classification, congestion typically begins to occur after 10:00 AM,” Karina said when met at Juanda Station in Central Jakarta on Wednesday (11 March 2026).

In addition, passenger congestion is also expected to occur from H+1 Eid onwards, as many members of the public undertake travel for tourism purposes.

“So on average, the stations that are tourist destinations. Typically, when the public has mobility needs for tourism purposes from H+1 after the first day of Eid,” she explained.

Because of this, KAI Commuter has prepared special standard operating procedures at stations expected to experience passenger congestion. One approach involves managing passenger flow so that if queues form, congestion can be quickly resolved.

Additionally, Karina stated that the headway, or time interval between KRL arrivals during the Eid holiday, will remain unchanged from the regular weekday schedule.

Karina continued that 1,065 KRL journeys per day will be operated in the Jabodetabek region during the 2026 Eid holiday.

“In 2025, we operated 1,063 trains. For those additional two trains, they will operate on the Rangkasbitung-Tanah Abang line,” she said.

Karina revealed that the addition of two KRL on the green line route has actually been in operation since late 2025. However, during the Eid period in 2025, these two additional KRL were not yet operational.

“This is what differentiates holiday transport operations between last year and 2026. Standard train composition consists of a maximum of 10 carriages,” she explained.

In addition to Jabodetabek KRL, KCI will also operate 14 local Merak KRL per day during the Eid transport period. For Soekarno-Hatta Airport Railway, 70 trains per day will be operated.

Meanwhile, passenger numbers are estimated to reach 45 million people using Jabodetabek KRL during the 2026 Eid period. This figure represents a 1.19 per cent increase compared to last year’s holiday transport.

“For the Soekarno-Hatta Airport commuter line, given that there are additional trains during this holiday transport period, we project an increase in passenger volume of around 3.1 per cent,” she added.
