The DKI Jakarta Provincial Government is preparing the construction of a Commuter Line (KRL) station in the Jakarta International Stadium (JIS) area. This programme is being carried out through coordination between the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government, the Republic of Indonesia’s Ministry of Transportation, and PT Kereta Api Indonesia (Persero), with support from PT Jakarta Propertindo (Perseroda) or Jakpro as the area manager. PT Jakpro’s President Director, Iwan Takwin, stated that strengthening public transportation has been a sustainable focus of the DKI Provincial Government in recent years. One manifestation is improving accessibility to JIS as a new hub for public activities in North Jakarta. According to him, the presence of the KRL station will bring significant changes in supporting the stadium’s overall operations. The station is planned to be located on the north side of the stadium, making it easier for direct access for spectators, especially from Jakarta Kota and Tanjung Priok directions, without needing to switch transport modes. Iwan also explained that the construction of this station is not limited to transportation infrastructure but is also part of the TOD development in North Jakarta. “This KRL station will be located right on the north side of the stadium, making it easier for spectators from various areas, especially from Jakarta Kota and Tanjung Priok, to reach the location directly without needing to switch transport modes,” he said, quoted from a written statement on Sunday (12/4/2026). He mentioned that this integration is designed to connect various transport modes with vibrant public spaces, making JIS not just a stadium but also a multipurpose venue active around the clock. “With this approach, the JIS area is expected to develop into an integrated activity centre, from sports and entertainment to community activities, supported by easy, comfortable, and sustainable public transport access,” he explained. Iwan said the JIS KRL station is targeted to be completed and start operating in June 2026. Its presence is believed to have a significant impact on the smooth running of various large-scale events, from football matches to international music concerts. With its large carrying capacity, the KRL is considered capable of alleviating traffic density, which has been the main challenge in the area, especially when the stadium is operating at full capacity of up to 82,000 spectators. In addition, this project is expected to encourage the public to shift from private vehicles to public transport. As a result, congestion on Jalan RE Martadinata and surrounding areas during major events can be significantly reduced. “Overall, this strengthening of public transport access also supports meeting JIS’s international standards, including FIFA requirements, while increasing the stadium’s opportunities to host various global events,” he added.
