KRL Services Resume Normally, Position of Special Women's Carriages Remains Unchanged
Transport Minister (Menhub) Dudy Purwagandhi stated that KRL operations at Bekasi Timur Station have returned to normal following the train accident incident.
Regarding the proposal to relocate the women’s-only carriages, no such move has been made, and their position remains unchanged due to consideration of several aspects.
“Safety does not recognise gender differences. Therefore, the placement of women’s carriages, whether at the front or back, is more about facilitating mobility, providing comfort, and preventing inappropriate behaviour towards passengers,” Dudy explained, quoted from Kompas.com on Wednesday (29/4/2026).
This is because a central position for the carriages eases passenger mobility to move front and back.
“If in the middle, it’s a crossing point where passengers can shift from front to back. But if at the back, passengers cannot go anywhere,” he clarified.
“We will repair the level crossing gates and urge the public not to create unauthorised crossings. We will also regulate all unlicensed or hazardous crossings,” he said.
The normalisation of KRL operations followed trials and confirmation of readiness in various other aspects, ensuring safety.
“After various stages of trials, KRL services on the Bekasi–Cikarang line have resumed operations from 14:00 WIB,” Vice President Corporate Communication of KAI, Anne Purba, was quoted from Antara.
“KAI is committed to always prioritising safety in every operation. The reopening of services at Bekasi Timur Station was carried out after ensuring all safety aspects are met,” Anne explained.
Representing PT KAI, Anne expressed thanks for the patience and understanding of customers during the evacuation and recovery process.
