KRL Services Restricted After Accident, Trips Only to Bekasi Station
PT Kereta Api Indonesia (KAI) has confirmed that Commuter Line (KRL) services will be temporarily restricted following a train accident at Bekasi Timur Station. KRL trips will not proceed to Bekasi Timur and will operate only up to Bekasi Station. KAI President Director Bobby Rasyidin stated that this measure is taken to support track recovery processes and ensure train operational safety. “For the time being, the Commuter Line or KRL will be closed first. The last service is up to Bekasi Station,” Bobby said during a press conference on Tuesday (28/4). He explained that although the downstream track has been reopened and can be used by long-distance trains, other track conditions are still under evaluation. Comprehensive inspections are being conducted, from rails and overhead catenary systems (LAA) to signalling systems that may have been affected by the collision. “We will determine it, yes, we will evaluate it first like that. The downstream track has been cleared, now we are working on the upstream track. Clearing this track is not just about no obstacles above it; we must also ensure the rail conditions, the LAA conditions above, and the signalling conditions. What if they were impacted by last night’s collision. So we will evaluate immediately. If all components are functioning, we will open it soon,” he said. Additionally, current train operations are still using one track alternately. This condition is causing travel disruptions, with at least 25 trains delayed. “There are still disruptions because we are still using the downstream track for alternating. As we know, from Bekasi to Bekasi Timur, it is only double track, not yet double-double track. (How many trains are delayed today) 25 trains,” he said. PT KAI emphasised that this KRL service restriction is temporary. Operational normalisation will be carried out after all infrastructure is declared safe and meets safety standards. “As I mentioned earlier, we evaluate, we check each component one by one, we check each system, yes. As soon as everything complies with the rules, with UIC standards, we will run it,” he said.
