KRL Services Remain Normal Amid BEM UI Protest, KAI Commuter Deploys Extra Security

KAI Commuter deployed 72 additional security personnel at several stations to anticipate a demonstration by students from the University of Indonesia’s Student Executive Board (BEM UI) in central Jakarta on Friday, 12 June 2026. Despite the protest, commuter line (KRL) operations were reported to be running normally as of 1 p.m. local time. Vice President Corporate Secretary of KAI Commuter, Karina Amanda, stated that the additional security deployment was a precautionary measure amidst the expression of public aspirations in the capital. “The additional security personnel consist of internal KAI Commuter officers as well as TNI and Polri members stationed at stations close to the location where aspirations are being voiced,” Karina said in a written statement. She noted that extra personnel were placed at Juanda, Palmerah, Sudirman, and Tanah Abang stations, with 22 personnel at Palmerah, 23 at Sudirman, and 27 at Juanda. KAI Commuter reported that conditions at these stations remained conducive, with passenger flow being relatively busy and smooth. As of 1 p.m., total commuter line users reached 406,139 people. Sudirman Station recorded the highest number of passengers alighting at 45,204, followed by Tanah Abang with 27,310, Palmerah with 23,994, and Juanda with 21,598. Karina added that KAI Commuter continues to monitor the situation on the ground and is prepared to implement situational operational adjustments if necessary, prioritising the safety, security, and comfort of passengers. The company also urged users to follow the instructions of station officers and to pay attention to safety while on the platform.
