KRL Passengers Drop 9 Percent During ASN WFH
KAI Commuter has recorded a 9 percent drop in Kereta Rel Listrik (KRL) passengers in Jakarta, Bogor, Depok, Tangerang, and Bekasi (Jabodetabek) today. Vice President Corporate Secretary of KAI Commuter, Karina Amanda, stated that the number of recorded passengers from morning until midday was 499,101 people.
“The 9 percent decrease compared to other working days amounts to 436,520 people,” she said in a written statement on Friday, 8 May 2026.
This decline is linked to the Work From Home (WFH) regulation for civil servants (ASN) every Friday. The policy aims to save energy consumption, particularly petroleum fuel (BBM), as crude oil prices on the global market have risen sharply due to the war in the Middle East.
Karina noted that several major departure stations and integrated stations were not as crowded as on usual working days. The conditions inside KRL trains during the morning rush hour were still quite busy. “Major stations like Bogor, Bekasi, and Tangerang had less density of users during the morning rush hour compared to other working days,” she said.
KAI Commuter recorded 23,000 people boarding KRL from Bogor Station, a 23 percent drop compared to other working days. Meanwhile, at Bekasi Station, there were over 22,000 passengers (down 9 percent), Sudimara Station over 11,000 passengers (down 14 percent), Tangerang Station over 10,000 passengers (down 19 percent), and Bekasi Timur Station over 5,000 passengers (down 6 percent).
Arrival stations located in office areas also showed a decline, such as Sudirman Station with 32,000 passengers (down 5 percent), Gondangdia Station with 15,000 passengers (down 21 percent), Juanda Station with over 14,000 passengers (down 8 percent), and Tebet Station with over 18,000 passengers (down 7 percent).
Karina stated that the travel schedule remains operated according to the applicable train timetable. “1,063 Commuter Line trips in Jabodetabek are still being operated today,” she said.
This measure is taken to maintain safe distances between users and provide time flexibility for those still using public transportation.
