KRL Passenger Density at Manggarai Remains Manageable Following Train Accident in East Bekasi
JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com — Passenger density on the Cikarang Line at Manggarai Station was monitored as relatively normal following the collision incident between the KRL Commuter Line and the KA Argo Bromo Anggrek at Bekasi Timur Station.
Passenger activity continued as usual, although there was a brief build-up upon the arrival of trains from the Bekasi direction.
Based on Kompas.com observations at the site since 06:55 WIB, several passengers were seen waiting for trains on platforms 3 and 4, which serve the Cikarang Loop Line.
Some passengers even appeared to be sitting on the available benches while waiting for the train to arrive.
Density was only noticeable when trains from the Bekasi direction arrived at Manggarai Station. Passengers alighting from the train immediately filled the platform area, while others rushed up the stairs to the upper floor.
On the second floor of Manggarai Station, density was also observed each time Red Line passengers from the third floor switched tracks.
Tina (27), one of the passengers, assessed that the impact of the incident in Bekasi Timur did not significantly affect conditions at Manggarai.
“It’s normal, isn’t it? It seems like they’ve already been evacuated there, so it’s not really felt,” she said when met by Kompas.com at the location on Tuesday (28/4/2026).
Meanwhile, Hadi (40), another passenger, admitted that his journey was somewhat disrupted because he had only just learned about the KRL service restrictions towards Cikarang.
“I just found out because I didn’t have time to check the news. I don’t know how it’ll be now,” he said when met by Kompas.com on Monday.
“Well, I don’t know, that’s a matter for when we reach Bekasi. Hopefully, my friend won’t mind picking me up,” he added.
Previously, the collision occurred between the Cikarang-bound KRL number PLB 5568A and the KA Argo Bromo Anggrek on the Gambir–Surabaya Pasar Turi route around 20:52 WIB on Monday night. The incident site was on the platform at Bekasi Timur Station KM 28+920.
As a result of the incident, seven KRL passengers died, and 80 others were injured.
The victims are currently receiving treatment at several healthcare facilities, including RSUD Bekasi, RS Bella Bekasi, RS Primaya, RS Mitra Plumbon Cibitung, RS Bakti Kartini, RS Siloam Bekasi Timur, RS Hermina, as well as RS Mitra Keluarga Bekasi Timur and Barat.
Meanwhile, 240 passengers on the KA Argo Bromo Anggrek were reported safe.
