KRL Mania Reminds KAI: Safety is Key to Maintaining Passenger Trust
JAKARTA - The KRL Mania community has reminded PT Kereta Api Indonesia (KAI) of the importance of maintaining safety factors following the train accident at Bekasi Timur Station, as it has the potential to reduce public trust in public transportation.
The Head of Public Communications for KRL Mania, Gusti, emphasised that safety must be the top priority to prevent users from switching to private vehicles.
According to Gusti, although there has not yet been a significant shift from KRL users to private vehicles, the potential remains if safety aspects are not addressed seriously.
He assessed that users who have long relied on KRL tend to continue using public transport.
However, concerns still arise, particularly regarding the positioning of carriages at the front or rear of the train.
“There are indeed some female passengers who might feel a bit worried when entering the women’s carriage at the very back,” said Gusti.
Nevertheless, he believes these concerns are still within reasonable limits and have not changed the habits of the majority of passengers.
“But in my opinion, for people who have been using KRL for years, it shouldn’t be an issue like that. Because fate can happen at any time,” he stated.
Gusti stressed that the most crucial step now is a thorough evaluation of the railway safety system, including infrastructure and emergency procedures.
“What is certain is that we demand guarantees that the security and comfort of the infrastructure have been met by the government,” he said.
It is known that the accident between the Cikarang-bound KRL Commuter Line and the KA Argo Bromo Anggrek occurred on the platform at Bekasi Timur Station on Monday night (27/4/2026), killing 15 people and injuring dozens of others.
The incident has triggered concerns among passengers and serves as a reminder of the importance of improving the public transportation safety system.
