KAI Commuter Area VI Yogyakarta and KAI Daop 6 Jogja have implemented additional train journeys to accommodate the surge in passenger numbers during the Eid holiday transport period.

Additional Commuter Line Services

Karina Amanda, Vice President of Corporate Secretary at KAI Commuter, stated that the operator is adding three Jogja-Palur commuter train journeys on dates anticipated to experience peak passenger demand, specifically from 22-24 March 2026.

“For the Commuter Line Jogja-Palur we ordinarily operate 31 train journeys per day. However, for the three days we project to be the peak of public mobility, 22-24 March, there will be three additional trains per day for the Jogja-Palur route,” Karina said during a meeting at Tugu Jogja Station on Sunday, 15 March 2026.

With these additional services, the combined daily transport capacity in Area VI is projected to reach 51,956 passengers during the Eid holiday period.

Karina noted that the operator projects total passenger volume during the Eid holiday period in Area VI will reach 678,576 passengers, representing a three per cent increase compared to the previous year.

However, considering recent three-day trends, this figure may be exceeded.

“Commuter Line users during the Eid Holiday Transport period of 11-14 March totalled 74,420, comprising 65,965 users on the Yogyakarta-Palur Commuter Line and 8,455 Prameks users,” she explained.

“However, based on current trends looking at the last two days, passenger growth will likely be higher than our projection. The daily average for Area VI Yogyakarta currently stands at approximately 22,000,” she added.

Long-Distance Train Additions

Meanwhile, KAI Daop 6 Yogyakarta is introducing one additional long-distance train for the Eid holiday travel period 2026, specifically the additional train service between Solo Balapan and Gambir stations operating in both directions. This additional train comprises one luxury coach, four executive-class coaches, and three economy-class coaches.

Feni Novida Saragih, Public Relations Manager at KAI Daop 6 Yogyakarta, stated that the economy-class coaches are being offered with promotional discounts of up to thirty per cent.

“The additional Solo Balapan-Gambir train will operate from 15 to 31 March 2026 and is expected to provide an alternative travel option for customers wishing to travel between Solo and Jakarta during the period of increased public mobility around and after the Eid holiday,” she explained.

“In addition to increasing seating capacity, KAI is also offering promotional discounts of up to thirty per cent for economy-class fares so that the public can travel more economically, safely, and comfortably using train services,” said Feni.
