KRL JIS Station Officially Opens, Pramono Calls It a Gift for Jakarta's 499th Anniversary
The KRL Jakarta International Stadium (JIS) station officially began operations on Monday (22/6/2026). The activation of the station, located on the Jakarta Kota-Tanjung Priok line, is expected to provide a transport solution for accessing the JIS area and reduce the traffic congestion that frequently occurs during concerts and football matches.
Governor of DKI Jakarta Pramono Anung stated that the operation of the JIS station is a special gift for Jakarta as it celebrates its 499th anniversary. ‘On behalf of the DKI Jakarta government, I would like to express my gratitude for the 499th birthday gift, namely the activation of JIS and Ancol, including this KRL station, and also the connecting bridge which we have named together with BTN,’ Pramono said during a press conference after the inauguration of JIS Station.
According to him, the presence of JIS Station is proof of collaboration between the central government, the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government, and various related parties in improving connectivity in the North Jakarta area. ‘This shows that good cooperation between the central government, in this case the Ministry of Transportation, with the DKI Jakarta government and also with Ancol, Jakpro, BTN, has been realised and is visible today,’ he said.
Pramono acknowledged that the main problems at JIS have been limited access and parking. Therefore, he urged that public transport facilities to the stadium be optimised immediately. ‘I hope this will be a starting point or an initial foundation for maximising the use of JIS,’ he stated. ‘Because as we know, the main issues at JIS are parking and transportation. With the KRL, TransJabodetabek, and the ability for people to park at Ancol, which is only about 300-400 metres from JIS, this will greatly reduce the traffic jams that have been a problem during concerts or football matches,’ Pramono added.
On the same occasion, Minister of Transportation Dudy Purwagandhi said the operation of JIS Station marks a new milestone in public transport services in Jakarta, particularly in North Jakarta. ‘I would like to wish the Governor a happy anniversary for the province of DKI Jakarta. This is a milestone for our public services, especially in Jakarta, where the inauguration or activation of JIS Station is expected to better connect the community, particularly in the DKI Jakarta and North Jakarta areas, with public transport services,’ Dudy said. He expressed hope that the public will gradually switch to using trains to access the JIS and Ancol areas, and the government is open to improving services if the number of users increases.
JIS KRL Station now serves the Jakarta Kota-Tanjung Priok route. The new station was built through cooperation between the Ministry of Transportation, the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government, and PT Kereta Api Indonesia (Persero) to facilitate public access to the JIS area. The station is on the Pink Line, located between Ancol Station and Tanjung Priok. Basic facilities such as entry and exit gates and platforms are available to serve passengers. Based on monitoring at the location, operations are currently being carried out in stages. Only one direction is currently functional, namely the journey from JIS Station to Ancol and Jakarta Kota, while services towards Tanjung Priok are not yet available for boarding and alighting from JIS Station. The station platform is approximately 200 metres long with a single-sided service. Several supporting facilities are also available, including a station master’s room, prayer room, and toilets for men, women, and disabled passengers. Although officially operational, parts of the station building still use modular structures made of lightweight steel and modified shipping containers. Observations from the platform area show that some service rooms are still housed in temporary orange and grey container buildings, but all facilities are already usable for passengers and operational staff on duty.
