KAI Commuter’s VP of Corporate Secretary, Karina Amanda, stated that the theft of a counting head cable occurred in the early hours of Friday (8/5) on the line between Daru Station and Parung Panjang Station. She explained that the automatic railway signalling system on that line experienced disruptions due to the theft. “For the Rangkasbitung Commuter Line services on that line, they are currently being operated using a manual system,” Karina said on Friday (8/5/2026). She noted that the cable is one of the vital infrastructure facilities for train operations. Relevant personnel are already at the site to carry out repairs and replacement of the stolen cable. As of 09:00 WIB, six Rangkasbitung Commuter Line trips experienced delays of between 14 and 24 minutes due to the manual scheduling. Acts of vandalism against railway equipment not only harm the company but also potentially endanger the safety of train operations and the public. Karina reminded that perpetrators of railway infrastructure theft can be prosecuted under applicable laws. “Perpetrators can face imprisonment for a maximum of 3 (three) years in accordance with Article 197 of Law No. 23 of 2007. That article states that any person who removes, damages, and/or commits acts that result in the malfunction of railway infrastructure shall be punished with imprisonment for a maximum of 3 years,” she emphasised. For the sake of collective safety and security, KAI Commuter urges all parties to safeguard railway public facilities. “KAI Commuter apologises for the delays in Rangkasbitung Commuter Line services this morning due to vandalism by irresponsible parties,” Karina concluded.
