KRL Commuter Rail Services Return to Normal After Earthquake Disruption
KAI Commuter has announced that it has completed track inspections following a magnitude (M) 5.9 earthquake that struck the Thousand Islands. KRL commuter train services, which were temporarily suspended, have now returned to normal operations.
“Post-earthquake track inspections were completed at 05:26 WIB. Commuter Line services on the Bogor, Cikarang, Rangkasbitung, and Tanjung Priok routes are operating normally again and are currently in the process of clearing congestion on the lines,” KAI Commuter stated via its X account on Saturday (12/09/2026).
Services on the Tangerang line have also resumed. KAI Commuter is currently working to manage passenger density caused by the delay.
“Post-earthquake track inspections were completed at 05:45 WIB. Commuter Line services on the Tangerang route are operating normally again and are in the process of clearing congestion on the lines,” the company added.
Previously, KAI Commuter stated via its X account that the suspension of services was implemented to conduct thorough track inspections.
“An earthquake occurred at 04:23 WIB in the Thousand Islands, DKI Jakarta. Commuter Line services were temporarily halted to allow for a comprehensive track inspection,” wrote KAI Commuter on Saturday (12/09/2026).
Meanwhile, the BMKG reported that the earthquake occurred on Saturday (12/09/2026) at 04:23 WIB, with its epicentre located 6 km east of the Thousand Islands, Jakarta.
