Krisdayanti to sing at peace concert
JAKARTA: Local diva Krisdayanti will be among the musicians from at least 10 countries who will perform in the World Peace Music Concert on June 14 at the Garuda Wisnu Kencana Cultural Park in Bali.
"I am glad that I have been given an opportunity to perform in the concert. Although I have only 15 minutes to sing three songs, I will do my best," she told journalists on Thursday at the Hilton Hotel.
She said musician Erwin Gutawa would accompany her as in arranging the music and that he would also play traditional music in the concert.
Other singers in the concert include Gloria Gaynor (U.S.), Emma Shapplin (France), Yoon Do Hyon (Korea) and Slank Group (Indonesia). The concert will be aired live at 9:30 p.m. by private television station SCTV.
Matt Taylor, executive producer of the World Peace Music Awards (WPMA), which has organized the concert, said singers had been selected based on their popularity and contribution to the music industry in their respective countries.
The free concert is expected to restore Bali's image as a safe tourist destination and to spread messages of peace. -- JP
