Kris Aquino withdraws complaint
MANILA: Former Philippine President Corazon Aquino's daughter withdrew abuse complaints against her ex-lover Monday, ending a high-profile spat between the celebrities that briefly distracted this nation from its many troubles.
The broken romance of Kris Aquino, a 32-year-old TV personality and actress, hit the headlines two weeks ago when she publicly accused her ex-lover of almost shooting her and infecting her with a sexually transmitted disease.
The sordid tale briefly pushed terrorism, poverty and political infighting out of the top media spot.
But on Monday, Aquino abruptly withdrew criminal complaints of illegal firearm possession, physical injuries, threats and coercion against Joey Marquez, a city mayor and comedian.
The move came after Marquez apologized to Aquino on television, said Aquino's lawyer, Raymond Fortun.
"It's over. They have agreed to settle their differences," Fortun told The Associated Press.
