KRI Prabu Siliwangi Still Searching for Missiles, Indonesian Navy Considers Options from Italy to Turkey
JAKARTA - The Navy Chief of Staff, Admiral TNI Muhammad Ali, stated that his side is considering several missile options for the Republic of Indonesia Ship (KRI) Prabu Siliwangi-321.
At present, the type of missile to be installed on the Pattugliatore Polivalente d’Altura (PPA) class warship is still under review.
Meanwhile, the gun ammunition is confirmed, and the sensor system will be equipped in the near future.
The ship is fitted with the main OTO Melara 127 mm gun, the 76 mm Strales gun for medium-range air defence, 16 vertical missile launchers, Teseo Mk-2E missiles for surface targets, anti-submarine torpedoes, and close-in automatic weapons.
This ship strengthens the Indonesian Navy under the Escort Squadron of the Second Fleet Command. The KRI commander is Lieutenant Colonel (N) Kurniawan Koes Atmaja, supported by 162 personnel.
KRI Prabu Siliwangi is designed for various missions, from patrols, surface, subsurface, and air warfare, escorting vital assets, maritime law enforcement, to humanitarian missions such as disaster relief.
During its voyage from Italy to Indonesia, the ship made stops in Morocco and Nigeria.
During the 44-day voyage from Italy to Indonesia, the ship also underwent combat capability tests, including firing the 127 mm gun.
This test marks the first for the Indonesian Navy in operationally handling large-calibre guns (over 120 mm).
The presence of KRI Prabu Siliwangi-321 is an effort by the TNI to modernise main weapon systems, while strengthening the defence and security of Indonesia’s maritime territory.
