Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Indonesian Navy (TNI-AL) through KRI Prabu Siliwangi-321 conducted a port visit in South Africa to strengthen bilateral ties between the Indonesian Navy and the South African Navy on Tuesday, 4 March.
In an official press release from the Indonesian Navy (TNI-AL) received in Jakarta on Saturday, it was explained that the port visit was carried out in the course of KRI Prabu Siliwangi-321’s journey home to Indonesia from Italy.
Head of the Navy Public Information Service (Kadispenal) Admiral TNI Tunggul, when contacted by ANTARA in Jakarta on Monday, said the port visit conducted by the crew of KRI Prabu Siliwangi-321 was led by the ship’s commander, Colonel Laut (P) Kurniawan Koes Atmadja.
During the port visit, several ambassadors and officers of the South African Navy visited the KRI Prabu Siliwangi-321.
“After the port visit, the commander of KRI Prabu Siliwangi-321, together with the officers, accompanied by the Indonesian Defence Attaché in Pretoria, Colonel Marinir Guntur Alamsyih, paid a courtesy call to FOF Simon’s Town Naval Base,” said Tunggul.
Their arrival, Tunggul said, was received by RADM Handsome Thamsane Matshane of the South African Navy. At the meeting, representatives of the Indonesian Navy and the South African Navy exchanged plaques as a symbol of friendship and cooperation between the navies.
“The sequence of activities continued with a visit to the City of Cape Town, where they were received by Mr. Alderman James Vos, Mayoral Committee Member,” Tunggul explained.
Tunggul hopes the port visit activities will strengthen bilateral relations between Indonesia and South Africa.
Thus, it is hoped that the Indonesian Navy and the South African military can forge strategic cooperation in the defence sphere.
