KRI Marlin-877 Evacuates Two Survivors from Sunken KLM Nurul Salsa 01 in Selayar

The Indonesian Navy warship KRI Marlin-877 has successfully evacuated two survivors from the sinking of the KLM Nurul Salsa 01 in the waters off the Selayar Islands, South Sulawesi, on Sunday (19/7/2026).

Commander of KRI Marlin-877, Lieutenant Colonel (Navy) Rahmad Kurniawan Sembiring, confirmed that both victims are now aboard the warship receiving emergency medical care. “They will then be taken to Jampea Island, Selayar Islands Regency, for further medical treatment,” he stated in a written release received in Makassar.

The rescue operation began when KRI Marlin-877 was conducting a routine patrol in Sector 3, the area where KLM Nurul Salsa 01 sank. At 13:30 WITA, the team received information from local fishermen regarding the victims’ whereabouts. Responding to the report, the vessel immediately headed towards Sanipa Island, where the two victims were seen moving towards Matalaang Island. The ship arrived at coordinates 06°50’929”S-118°57’146”E at 14:45 WITA and promptly deployed a boat to retrieve the victims.

The two survivors were identified as Jasmal (24) and Nurmiati (35). Both were found alive but in a very weak condition. By 15:30 WITA, the victims had been transferred aboard KRI Marlin-877 to receive first aid from the ship’s medical team.

According to accounts from Jasmal and Nurmiati, three other individuals remain missing and are feared to have drowned in the southern area of Sanipa Island. After evacuating the two survivors to Jampea Island, KRI Marlin-877 resumed its search and rescue operation at 16:00 WITA. “We have taken the victims to Jampea Island for further medical treatment, and we are immediately continuing the sweep to search for the three other missing victims,” concluded Lieutenant Colonel Rahmad.
