KRI Marlin-877 Evacuates Two Survivors from KM Nurul Salsa in Selayar Waters

The Indonesian Navy vessel KRI Marlin-877, under the command of the VI Naval Regional Command (Koaderal VI), successfully evacuated two surviving crew members from the sunken KM Nurul Salsa in the waters off Selayar on Sunday (19/7). The rescue operation took place while the warship was conducting a sweep in sector 3 of the incident location. Information on the survivors’ whereabouts was received at 13:30 WITA from local fishermen, who reported that two victims were found alive on Sanipa Island and were being transported to Matalaang Island. Responding swiftly, KRI Marlin-877 proceeded to the coordinates and, upon arrival at 14:45 WITA, deployed a rescue boat to collect the two survivors, identified as Jasmal (24) and Nurmiti (35). Both were found in a weakened state due to exhaustion and prolonged exposure to seawater. The ship’s medical team immediately provided first aid and basic medical care. According to survivor accounts, three of their colleagues are still feared to have drowned in the southern area of Sanipa Island. Commander of KRI Marlin-877, Lieutenant Colonel (Navy) Rahmad Kurniawan Sembiring, stated that the two survivors would be evacuated to Jampea Island for further medical treatment. As of 16:00 WITA, KRI Marlin-877 continued intensive search operations in the vicinity. Based on data from the Makassar Search and Rescue Agency (Basarnas), 18 people remain missing, while the total number of survivors rescued now stands at 59.
