KRI GNR-332 Arrives in Russia, Ready for Orruda 2026 Joint Exercise

Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Indonesian Navy (TNI AL) delegation has confirmed its readiness to take part in a bilateral joint exercise with the Russian Federation Navy (RFN), titled “Exercise Orruda 2026”.

This readiness was affirmed when KRI I Gusti Ngurah Rai (GNR)-332 arrived in Vladivostok, Russia, on Thursday (23 July).

According to an official press release from the Indonesian Navy received in Jakarta on Friday, the arrival of KRI GNR-332 was welcomed directly by the Assistant for Operations to the Chief of Naval Staff, Rear Admiral TNI Yayan Sofiyan, the Assistant for Intelligence to the Chief of Naval Staff, Rear Admiral TNI Andy Kriswanto, together with the Russian Federation Navy.

Yayan said the Indonesian Navy’s participation in the event aims to strengthen military and bilateral relations between Indonesia and Russia.

“The presence of KRI GNR-332 in Vladivostok to take part in Exercise Orruda 2026 represents Indonesia’s diplomatic commitment to strengthening its long-standing relationship with Russia,” he explained.

The event is also a continuation of joint exercises between the two countries, previously held in Indonesia two years ago.

Yayan expressed hope that the exercise would not only deepen ties between the two nations but also serve as a means of mutually strengthening naval defence capabilities.

For the record, during the joint exercise the Indonesian Navy and the Russian Navy will conduct several drills, including Maritime Interdiction Operation (MIO), which involves law enforcement and vessel interception at sea; Unmanned Surface Vessel (USV) exercises, covering tactics and strategies to counter enemy attacks using drone-based systems or unmanned vessels; Search and Rescue (SAR), involving search and rescue operations at sea; and finally Medical Evacuation (Medevac), covering emergency medical evacuation procedures.
