The Kremlin has stated that it holds great expectations for Russian President Vladimir Putin’s upcoming official visit to China. Moscow hopes the meeting will further strengthen strategic relations while expanding economic cooperation between the two nations.

Kremlin Spokesperson Dmitry Peskov stated that Putin is currently preparing for the visit alongside a large delegation comprising deputy prime ministers, ministers, and leaders of Russian companies. “I can say that we have very serious expectations,” Pesky told reporters on Monday.

According to Peskov, various economic issues that form a vital part of Russia–China relations will be discussed in depth during the visit. The agenda includes strengthening trade, investment, energy, and strategic cooperation across various other sectors. He emphasised that every meeting between Putin and Chinese President Xi Jinping provides new momentum for the development of bilateral relations.

“We are developing an independent and highly diverse relationship with China, which we refer to as a special and enhanced strategic partnership,” Peskov remarked.

The Kremlin maintains that Russia-China relations are continuously evolving across multiple fields, ranging from economics and energy to international geopolitics. Both nations are increasingly active in strengthening coordination amidst rising global tensions and rivalry with the West.

The relationship between Russia and China in recent years has been built not only on state interests but also supported by the personal rapport between President Vladimir Putin and President Xi Jinping. Both leaders frequently demonstrate strong political chemistry during international summits and bilateral visits. This personal connection has helped accelerate political coordination and strengthen mutual trust between the two countries.

Putin and Xi share similar perspectives on the international arena. Both reject Western unilateral dominance and advocate for a multipolar world order that provides greater space for non-Western powers. Russia and China also share common interests in reducing geopolitical pressure from the United States and its allies in the fields of economy, security, and technology.

Western pressure serves as another factor tightening the bond between the two. Economic sanctions against Russia due to the war in Ukraine, alongside increasing trade and technological rivalry against China, have led Moscow and Beijing to feel they face similar strategic challenges. In this situation, both nations are becoming increasingly active in building diplomatic coordination and economic cooperation to strengthen their respective positions on the global stage.

Furthermore, both Putin and Xi lead governance models that emphasise political stability and strong state control. This factor ensures that their political communication remains relatively stable and consistent compared to relations with Western nations, which often fluctuate according to domestic political dynamics. Consequently, Russia–China relations are evolving beyond mere pragmatic cooperation toward a long-term strategic partnership.
