Kremlin: Assassination of Iranian Leaders Could Lead to Serious Consequences
Moscow (ANTARA) - The assassination of Iranian leaders could lead to serious consequences, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said on Sunday (22/3).
“Be that as it may, this is an abnormal situation that has and will continue to have profound consequences. This cannot be left without consequences,” Peskov told Pavel Zarubin, a leading Kremlin reporter on Russian state television, while commenting on the assassination.
Peskov said that such actions would only lead to greater unity among the Iranian people around their leadership.
On 28 February, the United States (US) and Israel launched joint airstrikes against Tehran and several other cities in Iran, killing the then Supreme Leader of Iran, Ali Khamenei, along with several senior military commanders and civilians.
Iran subsequently responded by launching missile and drone attacks targeting Israel as well as several US bases and assets in the Middle East.
