Kramat Jati sub-district gathers street vendor coordinators to discuss relocation
Kramat Jati Sub-district gathered street vendor (PKL) coordinators representing various commodity types, from vegetable to fish sellers, who trade on the road shoulders and pavements along Jalan Raya Bogor, Kramat Jati.
“Today a meeting was held with eight trader coordinators from the vegetable, fruit, cake and fish sectors,” said Kramat Jati Sub-district Head Kamal Alatas in East Jakarta on Wednesday.
Kamal said the relocation process had been discussed jointly for the sake of a more orderly and comfortable area arrangement.
In the discussion, Kamal confirmed that the relocation would not be carried out through a bargaining process with the traders.
His office is seeking to take an approach that still pays attention to the conditions and interests of the traders.
“There is no bargaining process because here we are humanising the traders,” said Kamal.
Furthermore, Kamal said communication with the trader coordinators would continue to anticipate obstacles in the field.
By the time the meeting was held, the fish traders were said to have expressed their willingness to move.
“Alhamdulillah, 100 percent are willing to move in order to carry out the reorganisation,” said Kamal.
Previously, the East Jakarta City Government emphasised that street vendors on the road shoulders and pavements in the Jalan Raya Bogor area, Kramat Jati, would no longer be allowed to trade starting from 31 August.
“Starting from 31 August 2026, trading activities will no longer be permitted on the road shoulders or on the pavements of Jalan Raya Bogor, Kramat Jati,” said East Jakarta Mayor Munjirin when confirmed in Jakarta on Wednesday.
The decision is a follow-up to the instruction of the Governor of DKI Jakarta to immediately reorganise the Jalan Raya Bogor area, Kramat Jati, including relocating street vendors who cause congestion and make the area around Kramat Jati look unkempt.
According to Munjirin, the presence of trading activities on road shoulders and pavements is one of the problems that needs to be addressed immediately.
Based on the meeting discussion, 621 spaces have been prepared to accommodate traders according to available data.
The placement of traders will be carried out through a mapping process based on the type of goods and the suitability of the location.
The traders will also be given alternative relocation location options that have been prepared by the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government.
The move also follows a traffic accident that caused the death of a student, HH (18), on Monday (17/8).
HH died after the motorcycle he was riding was involved in an accident with a dump truck.
