Kramat Jati Main Market in East Jakarta uses eco-friendly bamboo baskets to distribute 6,000 units of sacrificial meat for Eid al-Adha 1447 Hijriah/2026.

‘Alhamdulillah, every year Kramat Jati Main Market uses these baskets. It’s our way of supporting the Governor’s directive to use environmentally friendly materials,’ said Agus Lamun, Manager of Kramat Jati Main Market, at the market in East Jakarta on Thursday.

Agus stated the move supports reducing plastic waste. Bamboo basket use has been a tradition at the market for five years during sacrificial meat distribution.

‘All 6,000 packages use bamboo baskets; we’ve been eco-friendly since five years ago,’ he added.

Beyond environmental benefits, bamboo baskets are safer and more practical for distributing sacrificial meat than single-use plastic bags.

This year’s Eid al-Adha saw the market slaughter 33 cattle and 15 goats, up from last year’s 27 cattle and 13 goats.

Agus noted the increase reflects heightened social concern among traders and stakeholders towards the local community.

‘This demonstrates the traders’ and stakeholders’ awareness to share their blessings with others,’ he explained.

Distributing meat to nearby residents, market traders, workers, and those in need, the committee ensured all distribution coupons were allocated and the process was orderly.

To prevent disturbances, the market deployed 45 internal security personnel with police support from Pospol Pasar Induk and Kramat Jati Police Station.

‘We hope it proceeds safely, smoothly, and orderly as in previous years,’ Agus said.

Meanwhile, Haji Muhammad Cholil, head of the Kramat Jati Main Market’s Sacrificial Committee, said the higher number of animals this year benefits the surrounding community.

‘Preparations were made well in advance; there are no issues with coupons or distribution. Everything is secure and, Insha’Allah, beneficial for local residents,’ Cholil stated.
