PT Krakatau Steel (Persero) Tbk, or Krakatau Steel Group, is encouraging the younger generation to understand the strategic role of logistics in the supply chain and the national economy. This understanding is considered important for improving distribution efficiency while strengthening the competitiveness of domestic industry.

This was conveyed by Krakatau Steel President Director Akbar Djohan during Krakatau Steel Goes to Campus at Sultan Ageng Tirtayasa University (Untirta) in Serang on Monday (24/8/2026). Akbar explained that logistics is not only about the movement of goods, but is also part of a supply chain that creates added value and influences the prices of products and services.

“Logistics is not just about how goods move from factories, warehouses, to consumers, but how logistics provides added value and drives economic turnover broadly,” said Akbar in his statement on Tuesday (25/8/2026).

Akbar said the steel industry has a domino effect on the economy because it involves various supporting sectors, ranging from transportation, port operations, vendors, to labour.

According to him, strengthening the steel industry and logistics ecosystem is important to drive industrialisation and increase domestic added value.

Akbar also invited young people to build a culture of productivity and efficiency from an early age, including in managing time and making decisions.

“Do not waste time in vain. Every effort expended must be commensurate with the results obtained,” said Akbar, who also serves as Chairman of the Indonesian Logistics & Forwarders Association (ALFI/ILFA) and Chairman of the Indonesian Iron & Steel Industry Association (IISIA).

Meanwhile, Untirta Rector Fatah Sulaiman said the presence of practitioners such as Akbar Djohan provides additional insight to students regarding the industrial and logistics world.

Krakatau Steel Group is also promoting efficiency and safety in the distribution chain. One of these efforts is through a commitment to support Zero Over Dimension Over Loading (ODOL) 2027 by ensuring product transportation uses vehicles that comply with applicable capacity and regulations.

In addition, Krakatau Steel is developing alternative logistics connectivity through a Ro-Ro Vessel service from Cigading Port to Panjang Port in Bandar Lampung. The service is intended to optimise the distribution chain with potential efficiency of around 10-12 percent.
