Krakatau Steel Develops Industrial Logistics Hub in Banten
Krakatau Steel Group, through its subsidiary PT Krakatau Bandar Samudera (KBS), is strengthening its role as a strategic logistics hub in Banten Province through cooperation with PT Pelabuhan Indonesia (Pelindo) and the development of isotank storage services with PT SGC Barito Logistics. This step is taken to support distribution efficiency and strengthen industrial area connectivity.
President Director of PT Krakatau Steel, Akbar Djohan, stated that strengthening KBS’s role is an effort to optimise the assets and infrastructure owned by the Krakatau Steel Group to support the national logistics system. “State-owned enterprises must be able to provide a systemic impact. Krakatau Steel Group has assets and infrastructure that can be optimised to support the smooth flow of national distribution while increasing Indonesia’s logistics efficiency,” Akbar said in a statement on Friday (12/6/2026).
As an implementation, KBS together with Pelindo operates a Ro-Ro ferry service connecting Cigading Port and Panjang Port. The service runs two trips daily with a capacity of approximately 200 vehicles. According to Akbar, the Ro-Ro service helps reduce traffic congestion on the Merak-Bakauheni crossing while improving the efficiency of inter-regional goods distribution via sea routes. “Indonesia is a maritime country. This step proves that the shift in logistics distribution, both outbound and inbound from industrial areas in Banten, can be carried out via sea lanes more effectively and efficiently,” he said.
In addition to strengthening sea transport services, KBS also signed a cooperation agreement with PT SGC Barito Logistics regarding the provision of isotank storage services in the company’s operational area. The cooperation is expected to improve supply chain efficiency while expanding the logistics services available in the port area. The development of isotank storage facilities is also carried out to optimise KBS’s port assets and services.
Akbar stated that the strengthening of KBS’s role is intended to support industrial connectivity, logistics efficiency, and the development of integrated services for business players. “Through synergy with Pelindo and the development of new logistics services, Krakatau Steel Group encourages the creation of a more efficient, integrated, and competitive logistics ecosystem to support sustainable national industrial growth,” Akbar said.
