Krakatau Pipe Begins Delivery of Pipes for Karian Project, Supplying 10,390 Tonnes for Raw Water System
JAKARTA - PT Krakatau Pipe Industries has begun the inaugural delivery of pipes for the Construction of Karian Dam–Serpong Water Conveyance System (KSCS) packages 2 and 3, which forms part of the National Strategic Project for raw water supply to Banten and DKI Jakarta.
The first shipment ceremony took place in Cilegon over the weekend and was attended by representatives from the Cidanau-Ciujung-Cidurian River Basin Organisation (BBWS C3) of the Ministry of Public Works, the commitment-making officials, project consultants, executing contractors, and industry partners.
The Karian Dam–Serpong Water Conveyance System project is designed to channel raw water from the Karian Dam in Lebak to Serpong, South Tangerang, via a pipe network spanning approximately 43 kilometres.
The Karian Dam is noted as Indonesia’s third-largest dam, with a storage capacity of 314.7 million cubic metres, and is projected to become one of the primary water sources to support water security in the region.
Director of Production and Technology at Krakatau Pipe, Erwin Saputra, described the inaugural delivery as an initial milestone in the project execution.
“We are committed to ensuring every stage of the project runs according to the highest standards. This first shipment marks an initial step that affirms our readiness to support the success of the Karian Project, both in terms of quality and timeliness,” Erwin stated in a press release on Tuesday (28/4/2026).
The pipes delivered have diameters of 72 inches and 80 inches, produced to AWWA C200 specifications, an international standard for steel water distribution pipes.
These specifications are used to meet the needs of large-scale water infrastructure due to their high strength, resistance to pressure, and long-term durability.
Prior to distribution, the company also conducted a Factory Acceptance Test (FAT) as part of quality control. This process ensures that technical specifications, quality standards, and contract requirements are met in accordance with regulations.
President Director of Krakatau Pipe, Hengki Purwoko, stated that the company’s involvement in this project is part of the national steel industry’s contribution to water infrastructure development.
“As part of the Krakatau Steel Group, PT Krakatau Pipe Industries is proud to participate and be entrusted with the Karian Dam–Serpong Water Conveyance System-KSCS project, which represents a tangible contribution from the national steel industry in supporting sustainable infrastructure,” Hengki said.
This project also adds to the list of domestic steel industry involvement in government strategic infrastructure projects, particularly those related to strengthening water resource systems.
