Krakatau festival

JAKARTA (JP): Bakrie Group's PT Krakatau Lampung Tourism Development Corp. (KLTDC) and the provincial government of Lampung will hold the eighth Krakatau Festival at the company's newly built resort next month.

KLTDC will also officially open the 350-hectare integrated tourist site called Kalianda Adventure and Nature resort south of Sumatra during the annual event on Aug. 22 to Aug. 25.

KLTDC's project director Chairul Hakim said yesterday the company would spend about Rp 1.6 billion (US$616.570) to hold the event.

Head of Lampung's tourist agency, Tarmizi Ali, said he expected the event to draw 2,000 visitors and raise the number of foreign tourists to Lampung by 12.88 percent.

The festival, a commemoration of the Krakatau's big explosion in 1883, would include cultural events and sports and adventurous competitions. (das)
