KPUD member probed for assault

JAMBI: Jambi Police are investigating an alleged assault by a member of Jambi Elections Commission (KPUD), Abdul Rasyid.

The case was reported to the police on Tuesday by Gripan, 30, a journalist with Corong Rakyat weekly tabloid, who claimed that Abdul Rasyid had assaulted him on Saturday.

Rasyid told The Jakarta Post on Thursday that he was angry when Gripan extorted money from his wife, and then they engaged in a fight. "It was a fight, not a case of mistreatment," said Rasyid.

The police have questioned three witnesses so far. -- JP
