KPUD evacuated after bomb threat

SEMARANG: The Provincial General Elections Commission (KPUD) headquarters in Semarang, Central Java, received a bomb threat on Monday, forcing officials to evacuate the building on Jl. Pemuda in the center of the city.

The threat was received over the telephone at 7:05 a.m. The caller claimed that his name was Budiono, according to Bambang Sutoyo, an official from the adjacent building, which houses the fisheries and maritime affairs office.

Bambang said the caller told him that a bomb had been planted in the KPUD building and was ready to explode. A police bomb squad unit searched the area and determined later that it was a hoax. --JP
