KPU West Jakarta conducts Coktas to update voter data

The West Jakarta General Election Commission (KPU) is conducting the Limited Verification and Matching Process (Coktas) to update the 2026 voter list. Chair of KPU West Jakarta, Endang Istiyanti, said the Coktas involves a door-to-door method, visiting households according to registered voter addresses. ‘179 individuals in the categories of Mismatched Voters and Overseas Voters are being verified. Essentially, these are the voter data we have doubts about,’ Endang stated. The voter data spans eight districts and 42 sub-districts out of 56 total in West Jakarta. Endang explained that Coktas aims to update voter data in West Jakarta. ‘This is part of the continuous voter data update process. After elections, we update data every three months at the KPU office through monthly plenary sessions,’ she added. Abdul Roup, Coordinator of the Prevention, Public Participation, and Public Relations Division and Secretariat of West Jakarta General Election Supervisory Agency (Bawaslu), said the Coktas process helps filter real data. ‘Field findings across almost every sub-district of unrecognised voters whose whereabouts are unknown to local RT heads or neighbours highlight the importance of ongoing factual validation,’ Abdul said. These findings will be crucial for election organisers to ensure voter data in West Jakarta remains clean and free from fictitious or invalid entries. ‘Upon discovering voters whose locations are unknown, we aim to promptly remove those who are Not Eligible (TMS) to prevent potential duplicate data or vote manipulation in the future,’ he said. Additionally, Abdul said Coktas aims to protect the voting rights of West Jakarta residents currently overseas, ensuring their political rights are properly facilitated through correct administration. The agency hopes the Coktas will result in a clean, comprehensive, and accurate Permanent Voter List (DPT) for upcoming elections. ‘Through this routine Coktas, we aim to clear up discrepancies in population data to ensure future voter data is more valid and accurate,’ Abdul added.
