KPU Urges NTB Officials Not to Rush Inter-Timely Replacement Process for Regional Legislators

In processing Inter-Timely Replacements (PAW), the KPU must be meticulous and avoid rushing the process.

Mataram (ANTARA) - KPU RI member Idham Holik has requested that the KPU ranks in West Nusa Tenggara (NTB) be careful and not hasty in processing the Inter-Timely Replacement (PAW) of Regional House of Representatives (DPRD) members.

“In processing PAW, the KPU must be meticulous and not rushed,” Idham stated during the Coordination Meeting for the Implementation of Inter-Timely Replacement of Regency/City DPRD Members across NTB in Bima, via a written statement received in Mataram on Wednesday.

Idham emphasised that every PAW process must be conducted based on legal certainty, especially when there are legal issues that could affect the status of the replacement candidate.

He cited examples of PAW processes in other regions that faced complex legal issues, leading the KPU to adopt a waiting stance until the legal proceedings were concluded.

According to Idiente, such a step represents the KPU’s prudence in ensuring that PAW decisions are grounded in a strong legal foundation.

“The PAW process may appear simple if no issues arise. However, the mechanism can become complex when problems emerge, particularly those related to legal processes,” he said.

Idham reminded KPU officials across NTB to closely examine the status of PAW candidates, including conditions that could affect the fulfilment of requirements.

These conditions include status as a civil servant (ASN), government employees with work agreements (PPPK), political party officials, as well as specific professions or positions that could potentially lead to conflicts of interest.

In its implementation, there are issues that require coordination and consultation, especially when regulations do not specifically address certain conditions. The results of such consultations then serve as guidelines for the execution of PAW.

“PAW has the potential to cause ethical issues if organisers do not strictly adhere to the principles of election administration,” he added.

The coordination meeting was attended by the Chairperson and Members of the KPU NTB, Chairpersons of KPU regencies/cities across NTB, Bawaslu of Bima Regency/City, KPU of Bima Regency, and the KPU secretariat ranks across NTB.
