KPU to be reported for fraud

PALU, Central Sulawesi: An executive from the Pioneers' Party plans to report the General Elections Commission (KPU) of Donggala regency to police for fraud, involving the party's list of legislative candidates.

Abdi, deputy chief of the party's Donggala chapter, said on Friday that the Donggala KPU had changed and deleted some candidates from the list without the party's knowledge.

The list was submitted to the KPU on Dec. 29.

"We will report the case ... sometime next week," he said.

Separately, Hasmia, a Donggala KPU member, denied the allegation, saying that the KPU had never altered the list.

He challenged Abdi's statement, countering that the changes might have been made before the list was submitted.

"There might be intrigue within the party," he said.

Abdi said the candidacy list was drawn up during a plenary meeting on Dec. 27, two days before its submission, and the possibility that it was changed by party members was slim. -- JP
