KPU Requests Additional Rp 78.3 Billion for Routine Activities and 2029 Election Preparations

The General Elections Commission (KPU) has submitted a request for an additional budget of Rp 78.3 billion for the 2027 fiscal year. This supplementary funding is intended to finance routine activities, including several preparatory stages for the 2029 General Election.

This was stated by KPU Secretary-General Suryadi during a working meeting with Commission II of the House of Representatives (DPR) at the DPR building in Senayan, Jakarta, on Monday (31/8/2026). The KPU had previously been allocated a 2027 budget ceiling of Rp 4.68 trillion.

“If divided based on the KPU’s main programmes, namely the management support programme and the election implementation programme, the allocation for the management support programme is Rp 3,253,034,613,000.00 or 69.48%. Meanwhile, the election implementation programme is Rp 1,429,140,000.00 or 30.52%,” said Suryadi.

Suryadi noted that the Rp 1.43 trillion is specifically for the 2029 General Election stages in 2027. This budget includes programme and budget planning, as well as the drafting of election implementation regulations, amounting to Rp 339.96 billion or 23.8%.

Furthermore, Rp 464.37 billion or 32.5% is allocated for the registration and verification of election participants, while the formation of ad hoc bodies is budgeted at Rp 187.5 billion or 13.1%. Additionally, voter data updating and the compilation of voter lists are allocated Rp 239.38 billion or 16.8%, and the determination of seat numbers and electoral districts is set at Rp 164.77 billion or 11.5%.

For the nomination of President, Vice President, and members of the DPR, DPD, and provincial/regency/city DPRD, the budget allocation is Rp 33.2 billion or 2.3%.

“The allocation for this non-operational expenditure is the budget for the 2029 General Election stages allocated for the 2027 fiscal year,” he said.

“All activities within the election implementation programme are for the 2029 General Election stages in 2027. Meanwhile, there is currently no budget allocation for routine non-stage activities,” he added.

Meanwhile, Suryadi stated that the Rp 3.25 trillion for management support is used for items such as employee salaries, performance allowances, honoraria for the KPU Chairperson and Members, and office operations across all KPU work units.

The KPU is proposing an additional budget of Rp 78.3 billion. This budget will be used for the 2029 General Election stages and routine activities.

“As I mentioned earlier, the entire election implementation budget is allocated for the 2029 General Election stages in 2027. However, there is no budget allocation at all for activities of a routine nature,” he explained.

“Therefore, on this occasion, we are proposing an additional KPU budget for 2027 for both the election implementation programme and the management support programme of Rp 78.3 billion. The breakdown includes 67 activities in the management support programme and 5 activities in the election implementation programme to prepare for the implementation of election stages in 2027,” he concluded.
