The General Elections Commission of the Republic of Indonesia is preparing an update to voter data and a Special Electoral District (Dapil) for the Nusantara Capital (IKN) for the 2029 elections, both for selecting candidates for members of the DPD RI and DPR RI. Unlike the 2024 elections, which still fell under the East Kalimantan (Kaltim) electoral district, IKN will become a special electoral district for the 2029 elections. “In the future, there will be a special electoral district in IKN for the 2029 elections, so preparations are being carried out starting now,” said KPU Commissioner Iffa Rosita during a working visit to IKN on Friday (24/4). Iffa stated that next year, or 2027, will be an important year as it enters the stages of the 2029 elections. Therefore, they are racing against time to organise the special electoral district in IKN. “There will be elections for the DPD and DPR, so the KPU and the IKN Authority will frequently interact to update the special voter data for IKN. Once ready, a KPU building will also be constructed here,” said Iffa. On that occasion, the IKN Authority presented the development progress of IKN, which has now entered Phase II with a focus on building the legislative and judicial areas. This presentation is part of efforts to strengthen cross-institutional understanding of the direction of the new capital’s development. Secretary of the IKN Authority, Bimo Adi Nursanthyasto, emphasised the importance of collective roles in delivering accurate information about IKN to the public. “The development of IKN is a shared commitment of the Indonesian nation. We hope for support in disseminating correct and constructive information about IKN,” said Bimo.
