KPU officials named suspects

TANGERANG: The police named on Monday the secretary and a member of the Tangerang Elections Commission (KPU) as suspects for tampering with the documents of a candidate to make it appear as if he had passed the election screening.

The KPU secretary Wawan Kuswanto and member Ibnu Jandi were questioned at the Tangerang Police Headquarters on Monday.

They were accused of putting Budi Kristanto on the top of the list of candidates of the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDI-P) to represent Cileduk, Karang Tengah and Larangan districts.

Another KPU member Jazuli Abdillah will also be questioned on Tuesday over the case.

The case was filed by the Banten Provincial Election Supervisory Committee (Panwaslu) after it found out that Budi had actually failed the KPU screening. --JP
