KPU: For money or devotion?
KPU: For money or devotion?
From Kompas
The news that the monthly salary of members of the General Elections Commission (KPU) is over Rp 10 million and that the KPU will also build 10 houses worth about Rp 1 billion each surprised me. The question arises: Is service on the commission meant to earn a living or for devotion to the country?
At the initial stage of selection to the commission, candidates should have been asked about their motivation for wanting to join the KPU, whether they would work for money or out of service to the public, and be prepared to receive Rp 2 million a month for working 10 hours a day without free housing.
What about the salaries of the members of the Corruption Eradication Commission? I have qualified as a candidate for the commission's leadership. On the registration form, I firmly declared that I was motivated solely by devotion to the country and was ready to receive a salary of only Rp 1,750,000 per month for working 10 hours a day without the free use of a car or house.
If I had intended to seek a big salary, I would have returned to my previous job in the U.S.
