KPU consults with KPPU over monopoly
JAKARTA: The General Elections Commission (KPU) has consulted
with the Business Competition Supervisory Commission (KPPU) to
anticipate the possible monopoly in the voter registration paper
tender.
KPU member Hamid Awaluddin said on Monday, after the
consultation with KPPU member Tajudin Nursyaid, that the KPU had
promised the monopoly would not take place in the tender.
He said the KPU had allowed all bidders to obtain raw
materials from either local or foreign suppliers or both, thus
preventing certain producers from holding a monopoly.
The KPU has been criticized for holding tenders for the
election, instead of assigning the jobs to its secretariat as
commonly practiced by other state institutions.
There are more than 143 million registered voters for the 2004
election. --JP
