KPU Allocates Rp1.42 Trillion for 2029 Election Stages in 2027 Indicative Budget

The General Elections Commission (KPU) of Indonesia has allocated a budget of Rp1.42 trillion for the stages of the 2029 General Election within the indicative budget ceiling for the 2027 fiscal year. KPU Chairman Mochammad Afifuddin explained that the KPU received an indicative budget ceiling of Rp4.68 trillion for 2027. This budget consists of Rp2.26 trillion for employee operational expenditure, Rp988 billion for office operational expenditure, and Rp1.42 trillion for non-operational expenditure. “The non-operational expenditure is the budget allocation for the 2029 election stages, so part of the 2029 election stage budget has already appeared in the 2027 fiscal year because we will implement several stages in 2027,” said Afifuddin during a meeting with Commission II of the Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR RI) on Monday (15/6). He explained that one of the budget allocations for the 2029 Election stages is planning activities, which amount to approximately Rp339 billion. In addition, the KPU has budgeted Rp463.3 billion for the registration and verification of political parties intending to participate in the 2029 Election. “The formation of Ad hoc Bodies, because as party registration usually begins, we start recruiting some Ad hoc Bodies. The budget is around Rp187 billion,” he stated. Furthermore, for updating voter data and compiling the voter list, the KPU has allocated a budget of Rp239.3 billion. The determination of the number of seats and electoral districts (dapil) has a budget of approximately Rp164.7 billion. Lastly, for the nomination stages of the president and vice president, as well as the nomination of members of the DPR, DPD, provincial DPRD, and district/city DPRD, the KPU has allocated a budget of Rp33.2 billion. “So this means that we indeed have to start several of these stages this year, while temporarily referring to the existing election law, including the stages that were carried out by the KPU five years ago,” he said.
