Jakarta (ANTARA) - Member of the Commission for the Acceleration of Police Reform (KPRP) Police General (Ret.) Ahmad Dofiri stated that Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto wants all government institutions to be reformed, including the Polri.

“The President conveyed that what he wants is indeed for all institutions to undergo reform. Why start with Polri? Because the most scrutinised are the law enforcement apparatus, and Polri is the forefront of that law enforcement apparatus,” he said during a press conference in South Jakarta on Wednesday.

He explained that the Head of State conveyed his vision regarding food security, energy security, water security, corruption issues, and others.

Since Polri is the law enforcement apparatus that has connections to these visions, it is important for the Bhayangkara Corps to be reformed.

Dofiri recounted that the KPRP was given three months to work. In the first two months, the commission absorbed aspirations from the public regarding Polri reform.

“There were approximately 154 entities or groups that we invited,” he said.

In addition to face-to-face meetings, the KPRP also gathered aspirations through a hotline (call service) and WhatsApp.

“Then from absorbing aspirations, there are many issues highlighted, ‘How come when entering the police, there’s payment? In law enforcement, why is it so difficult if a case takes so long to resolve?’ Various things. In the service sector, there are still levies and so on. We accommodate all of this. We accommodate, we discuss,” he stated.

Previously, President Prabowo Subianto received the final report and recommendations from the Commission for the Acceleration of Police Reform, submitted by Jimly Asshiddiqie as the Commission Chairman at the Presidential Palace, Jakarta, on Tuesday (5/5).

The President received several books, including one titled “Bridge of Aspirations for Polri Reform” as well as “Follow-up on Recommendations”.

Coordinating Minister for Law, Human Rights, Immigration, and Correctional Services, who is also a KPRP member, Yusril Ihza Mahendra, stated that the compiled report varies in thickness from thousands of pages to short summaries.

Its contents consist of various proposals and recommendations from the Commission for the Acceleration of Police Reform to make improvements in the police institution.

Yusril emphasised that the submitted recommendations are substantial and have the potential to bring major changes to the police institutional system. In fact, several proposals are deemed capable of impacting revisions to the current Police Law.

“If approved, there will be implications for changes to the existing Polri law,” Yusril remarked.
