KPRP: Prabowo wants further discussions on Polri reform
Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Komisi Percepatan Reformasi Polri (KPRP) has stated that President Prabowo Subianto wishes for further discussions on Polri reform, even though the commission’s tasks have been completed.
“Yesterday we finished, but the President still said, ‘Oh, are you already finishing?’ he said. ‘We’ll have another meeting, let’s arrange more interesting discussions,’” said KPRP member Mahfud MD, quoting the President, in Jakarta on Wednesday (6/5).
Regarding what will be discussed next, he admitted he does not yet know.
In terms of assignment, he mentioned that the commission’s duties have ended because it is ad hoc, formed for a single purpose.
“The main thing is about Polri reform, originally set for three months. We’ve finished, we’ve reported. Basically, there’s no other work, especially since we’ve produced recommendations of about 3,000 pages,” he said.
Meanwhile, KPRP member retired General of Police Ahmad Dofiri said that they will monitor and oversee the implementation of the recommendations by Polri internally.
“Coincidentally, I am also the President’s Special Advisor on Public Security and Order and Polri Reform. So, automatically, I in particular will follow up because this is planned to be in the form of a Presidential Instruction (Inpres) or Presidential Decision (Keppres),” he said.
Some of the recommendations from KPRP include matters related to the position of Polri, strengthening the National Police Commission (Kompolnas), and enhancing institutional and managerial aspects of Polri.
Dofiri said that they will oversee the follow-up of these recommendations by Polri in the short, medium, and long term.
Previously, President Prabowo Subianto received the final report and recommendations from the Komisi Percepatan Reformasi Polri, submitted by Chairman Jimly Asshiddiqie at the Presidential Palace in Jakarta on Tuesday (5/5).
The President received several books, including one titled “Jembatan Aspirasi untuk Reformasi Polri” (Bridge of Aspirations for Polri Reform) and “Tindak Lanjut Rekomendasi” (Follow-up of Recommendations).
Coordinating Minister for Law, Human Rights, Immigration, and Correctional Services, who is also a KPRP member, Yusril Ihza Mahendra, presented the compiled report which varies in thickness from thousands of pages to short summaries.
Its contents consist of various proposals and recommendations from the Komisi Percepatan Reformasi Polri for improvements in the police institution.
Yusril emphasised that the submitted recommendations are substantive and have the potential to bring major changes to the police institutional system. In fact, several proposals are considered to impact the revision of the current Police Law.
